Horses have a way of changing lives sometimes in ways we never expect. My journey into equine care started not in a classroom, but with personal struggle, a chance encounter, and a horse who taught me more than I have imagined.
Towards the end of high school, I was struggling with depression. I was searching for something to help me step out of that funk, so I used it to justify trying horse riding lessons. From the first time I sat in the saddle I was hooked. The horses, the barn, and the community around them gave me a sense of purpose.
After a few months of hanging around a new and very skinny horse showed up at my barn. She was underweight and in need of care and I found out that her previous owner could no longer afford to feed her during COVID. Without much thought I bought her. Her name was Nochi.
The truth was, I didn’t really know what I was doing. I loved horses but had never been responsible for one myself. I tossed myself into the deep end, learning everything I could as fast as possible and I don’t regret a second of it.
Getting involved with horses dramatically changed my life. They taught me invaluable lessons in patience, resilience, and the importance of taking responsibility. The community I found in the barn gave me a support system that helped me through my darkest moments, and the bond I shared with Nochi became a symbol of hope. Through her, I learned how to persevere in the face of adversity and to keep pushing forward, even when the journey seemed uncertain.
Nochi’s recovery was a testament to the power of second chances, and in many ways, she mirrored my own healing process. I’ve come to realize that horses do more than just offer companionship—they offer perspective. They’ve taught me to trust in the process, even when things seem impossible, and to appreciate the small victories along the way.
After my time at Rocky Mountain College, I felt more connected to my purpose. The experience I gained working at the veterinary clinic and in the equine science field reaffirmed my passion for animal care and solidified my decision to pursue a career where I could make a difference. Whether it’s in a clinical setting or within the equine industry, I know this is where I’m meant to be.
That’s why I created this blog—to share the knowledge I’ve gained, both academically and hands-on, with others who share the same passion. It’s not just about the technicalities of horses and their care, but about the stories and lessons that come with working alongside these incredible animals. Whether it’s offering insights on veterinary care, sharing personal stories of triumph and loss, or providing advice to those new to the equine world, I hope this blog offers something valuable to all who visit.
So, welcome to my blog—where I believe horses offer a little insight.
